Do you know someone who has a sight or physical disability that prevents the individual from reading the newspaper? Volunteers at the Radio Reading Service read the newspaper six days each week for disabled people. Using a coded radio signal broadcast from WZIP-FM and a special radio receiver, the sight-limited or handicapped person has access to newspapers, books, magazines and more. The service is free to qualified applicants. For information call the Radio Reading Service at 784-3393.

Physique '92 sanctioned by AAU. The Arcadia Bodybuilding Society was founded in 1986 by George Birimisa. ABS produced Physique '91, the International Lesbian and Gay Bodybuilding Championships in San Francisco. Rodney Felix, a 31 year old bodybuilder and fitness trainer is the new president. Rodney was Mr. January in the S.F. Eagle's 1991 calendar as well as winning a gold medal in the lightweight division of Physique '91.

The new president is proud to announce

December, 1991

that Physique '92 has been sanctioned by the A.A.U. (the Amateur Athletic Union). The June 20 competition will be held under AAU regulations. All judges must be sanctioned by the A.A.U. However, Rodney says, "This does not mean that our unique format will be changed. We will still have our trademark 'same sex pairs' our 'Best Posing' and 'Best Abdominal' awards. I want to say Physique '92 is a community celebration!"

In line with our policy of promoting natural bodybuilding, Physique '92 requires all competitors be tested for anabolic steroids. For more information write ABS, 1230 Market Street, Suite 221, S. F., CA 94102 or call 415-431-6254.

Remember, if you are a bodybuilder anywhere in the world, you are eligible to compete in Physique '92!

God's Country: A Case Against Theocracy, by Sandy Rapp, is a compelling and controversial new book that explores the enormous political influence that some religious groups currently wield. God's Country focuses particularly on the issue of personal privacy rights and the strategies and rhetoric these groups are using to diminish those rights among select segments of society. Author Sandy Rapp, a grassroots activist, shares her experiences in one-onone debates with religious fundamentalists who have been on opposite sides of the social issues for which she has so passionately fought in recent years. God's Country poses some provocative questions that are certain to spark debate among enlightened religious professionals, professors, and students studying political science, government, women's history, human sexuality, and religion.

A black gay best-seller. For the first time, a book by and about black gay men is topping the gay best-seller lists.

Brother to Brother: A black gay anthology, edited by Essex Hemphill, has sold briskly ever since it was published in April. "But unlike most books, which slow down after a month or two, sales of Brother to Brother have actually been increasing," said publisher Sasha Alyson of Alyson Publications. The book appears in the number one position for gay men's paperbacks in the current issue of Lambda Book Report, and gay stores around the country--from

San Francisco to Philadelphia--have reported it in that slot during the summer and early fall.

Blue pocket calendar. Herrlich Productions' The Blue Calendar 1992 is a queer, pocket-sized calendar and

address-book featuring recent works by 30 provocative San Francisco photographers and graphic artists.
